DIY: 16 Amazing Pallet Projects with Tutorials!

Wooden pallets, which are used in the shipping industry are typically a low end commodity. Pallets will get reused a few times before either being scrapped as trash or used as firewood.

Most often made from inexpensive junk species of lumber (whatever is most widely available), wood pallets are the perfect candidate for up-cycling & recycling. Check out these creative projects made from up-cycled pallets and I think you’ll agree!

Pallets can typically be found at hardware stores and if you ask nicely, I think they would be able to spare one or two. I also saw a stack that said “free” at a landscape company down the road from my house. Another option would be to check out Craigslist under the “free” section.

What initially inspired me to create this post was when I saw my neighbors outside creating the table below:
Above is a picture of the table that initially inspired my two neighbors. You can find the full tutorial here. I told you craftiness runs in our neighborhood. (Remember when my other neighbor made me this cincysavers.com apron?)

  1. These ideas are not original – this “pallet” furniture has been on pinterest for over a year now! Not impressed with any of her ideas!

    • Hi! Thanks for your comment! Just to clarify, these were NOT my ideas. I posted these pictures to use as inspiration and wanted to make sure I linked back to every project to give the person who took the time to write the tutorial, the proper credit.

    • Hi Jill,

Yes you did! We had a lot of readers asking for the tutorials on how to create some of the projects shown previously and we just wanted to provide that information.

  2. As a heads up, don’t be offended if you ask “big box” stores for these and they say “no.” As a former retail worker (16 years) these are often sent back to the warehouse because they aren’t cheap. If you have seen trucks around town with these bad boys piled sky high, it’s because they generally grab them from the back of stores and can get about $30 for each of them. At my previous incarnation, we used to have many of ours stolen from the back. Nifty ideas though. Actually inspired me to do something else but with paint stir sticks.

  3. I just wanted to say thanks! for gathering and sharing some great ideas that I would not have thought to look up myself. I actually have about 50 of these that I was going to put out for free (which is how I got them) but I will hold a few back now. I would also like to say to the others who posted comments…wow, if you don’t have anything nice to say, it seems to me such a waste of time to actually type any thing at all.
    Have a great day!!

  4. thank you sooo much, this made my life so much easier, i have to research pallet projects for my wood shop class, and my work is already don for me. i think i may do the vertical planter as my project. it would have taken so long for me to have gathered this info, you have saved my life!

    • I am so glad. I enjoyed putting these projects together because they were so creative and inspiring. Good luck with your planter!

  5. thank you so much for sharing. i am not good at carpentry but sure would like to try doing at least one of your tutorial here. if i get it right, then maybe this will give me enough courage to tackle the rest. you’re right.they’re so creative and inspiring. thanks a lot!

  6. Love all the great ideas!! I can’t get the tutorial for the pallet shed to open. Keep getting a message that the page can’t be found. Has it been moved??

  7. Well, some people just can’t say anything nice. I loved the ideas. Seems like it would save a tremendous amount of time. These are ideal projects for thoses with limited tools and carpentry knowledge. Thanks for posting.

  8. I have never, not once, left a comment on a blog, but after reading a couple of the rude remarks in the comments, I just had to say how absolutely ridiculous & stupid some people make themselves appear! The blogger never claimed these ideas as her own; in fact, she couldn’t have been more clear with the credit she gave to original authors. And, the blogger responded with such grace to the rude comments. I know I would have had something just as smart to say back to them!

That being said, I enjoyed the post thoroughly!

    • Thanks Allie, I really appreciate it. The people who created these projects truly deserve the recognition as they were the ones who really did all the work. I’m just here to spread their talents so it can reach more viewers. Plus, I think the ideas are awesome! :)
