Pinterest Roundup: Creative Uses for Pallets

I don’t know about you, but with all the warm weather I’ve been bitten by the gardening bug. Even more, I keep seeing all these great ideas for ways to use pallets in the garden or landscape. I thought for this week’s Frugal Pinterest Roundup I’d compile a list of interesting ways you can use pallets in the garden. Pallets are cheap, often free, at many warehouses, and can be used in so many creative ways!

Instant raised garden bed: add dirt to the pallet and plant!

Convert wooden pallets into a protective fence around those ugly outdoor A/C units. Embellish with solar lamps and a window box to pretty it up!

A tutorial on turning pallets into a bed swing. Looks so comfy!

What a cute way to repurpose pallets: a simple playhouse.

So cute! Using a pallet to make a wall garden.

Using pallets to make lawn chairs.

Creating an outdoor coffee table from pallets.

And last but not least, my personal favorite:

Using pallets as decking to create a simple garden area.

  1. Often warehouses will give any extra pallets they have away free, you just have to ask. Or, you can look on craigslist and buy them there for $5-$10 a piece.

    • Hi Sharon,
I believe if you click on the pictures, they will take you to Pinterest where you can find the original source and tutorials.

  2. Hi there! I tried to click on the photo, but it only took me to, well, a webpage that just had the photo on it. I’ll try to search Pinterest, but if you happen to have the links it would be lovely to share them! Thanks so much for these great ideas!

    • Maria, we ran into the same issue when putting this together. I usually am a stickler for using original sources, but these were very tough to find on several of them, so we decided to just link to the Pinterest photos. Was there one in particular you wanted directions for?

  3. I’ve been googling, but can’t find the tutorial for making the pallet into a bed swing. Has anyone else tracked down that tutorial? I’d love to send the link as a hint for a Mother’s Day gift. ;)

  4. Please be cautious when using pallets in your garden. Most of the wood used for pallets are treated with chemicals that will leach into the plants you grow. So flowers would be fine but an edible vegetable garden might be dangerous. There have also been reports of contamination from pallets that have been used to transport chemicals and food and in some cases have harbors dangerous bacteria. Cinderblocks might work for a quick raised garden instead?
